in about 8 or 9 O clock that evening Saw [William] Grover & there about <7 or> 8 or 9 O Clock— Saw there— <but> did not See — saw them down at the Steam Boat Boreas at the landing— heard <there> that Jo & were killed— was in when the Smiths were killed— Saw here in — ◊◊◊◊ing he was eating dinner at the time of the firing of the guns— I went down to that evening with Mr. Dodge who lived on the side of the river— Did not See in that Evening— did not hear any of these men say a word about the transaction in the world one day <way> or the other— Since it occurred— came out with me early in the morning of that day to — thinks he is not mistaken as to the day— may be mistaken but dont believe I am— Cant say whether went to the Railroad Shanties that day or not— he came out with me to about seven O’clock in the morning— might have went there afterwards but dont know whether he did or not—
