I recollect the day on which the Smith were sed to have been killed I was living in & my husband was keeping tavern in I was at home all that evening and night— I was in my room when I first received the News of their deaths— I Did not see & [James] Gregg rid[e] up to my door in a two horse buggy I had no conversation with about the killing of the Smiths— I had no conversation in my house with at all— I have no recollection of Gregg & coming into the hall & calling on me for water they did not do so— I remember the circumstance of a number of men coming there and calling for supper I was at that time well acquainted with Capt [William] Grover he boarded at my house— I did not see him among the number who ate supper there that nite— Grover did not bring a wounded man and ask your permission for him to set by the fire— there was a wounded man there— I did see the wounded man when he first came into the kitchen— I do not recollect who came into the house with him— I do not recollect to have seen either or Grover that nite [p.
