At the General parade on the 4th day of July 1842 a Committee of five was was appointed by the officers of the Legion to revise the Laws of the Legion, the said Committee was composed of Generals , , & Cols and the War Secretary acted as Secretary.
An ordinance to amend an ordinance entitled an Ordinance organizing the Nauvoo Legion passed Feb. 3nd 1841.
Sec. 1. Be it, and it is hereby ordained by the City Council of the City of , That the Lieutenant General of the Nauvoo Legion shall not be required to act as the president of any Court Martial, or of the Legion; also that he may add to his staff a Chief Chaplain with the rank of Colonel.
Sec. 2. That officers may be elected without being nominated by the Court Martial, and that all vacancies shall be filled by lawful elections, and not by granting brevet commissions. [p. 21]
