there were between [illegible] and 300 started this way there were two or 3 baggage Wagg [wagons] allong— I lef them about 4 miles from here they were then scatterd along— I think left them first I cannot say whether alone or not I do not recollect to have after we left the R R untill in remained with us untill we got within 4 miles of here— I cant say that I saw after I left the R R I did not at all— I saw G [William Grover] untill within 4 miles of — four miles from here the waggons kept the road the men turned lef the hollow— I do not know whether came up to the bagg wagg or no— the men turned off a hollow to the left of the road which [illegible] to the point of timber— I came straight to — I got here some few minutes befor the company and went to the Jail did not see any of Def[endan]ts befor com came up do not know who was there did not speak to any boddy went there to see what they were going to do— saw the guard at the Jail they did not speak to me Some were on one side some on the other— I did not speak to the guard because I knew that knew as much about it as any boddy eslse— I saw instead that the guard were to be loaded with blank ca[r]tridges— I was several minutes after I got there before the main [p.
