the Carthage Greys wer[e] E of I saw before the firing they had not then gon into the Jail— I saw Grover again during the conflict but not after— I did not hear G say any thing— told the mob to rush in boys there is no danger and hollowed for them to come round on that side to the window & said when they did so shoot the D scoundrell— I do not recollect to have seen after— I went that night to Mr [Larkin] Scotts on I saw Smith after he was shot & supposed he was dead— they had not all left them then— the men had been drinking & acted like they were drunk— I am not there I did not rite the book with my name upon it it was written by some of it before it was written— I saw the light it was a shor light right at their boddies— I related to substantially as I have now related— I am a Cooper by trade. I am from am 24 years of age have been in & lived in Cain [Kane] Co before coming to this — position was between the Gr[ey]s and the Jail not far very Near the Jail— the Grays did not get to the Jail untill the mob had left & I left town immediately after his occurance [p.
