I lived about 3 miles from Aug[usta] had been there about a year reside in . I had been <[illegible]> there fror days several Boats passed while there— I thought I would stop then the Ohio did not come when I expected & when she come I did not go on her— I did not belong to any company of — I volunteered in Company— I had a Yager [Jäger] guns had no Byonetts— I dont know to whom I reported myself dot dont know but joined the Company— I knew before I joined the Company that they intended to murder the Smiths. I learned this from the officers— Grover & — they all said somthing but, cant tell what— They were to send 20 men to to kill the Smiths— this was on the parrade ground the night before— I cant say the number I think there were 1/2 doz— in company talking— I walked up to them talking— some saw me some did not. they did not stop but kept on talking— I had not then joined the Company— they were out in the open ground in a ring talking and continued talking when I stood by— they did not pretend to be [3 words illegible] [st]arted from D [1 line illegible] — [p.
